The Raleigh area has a thriving network of local farmers' markets, where a stunning array of locally-grown produce is available, and is often sold by the farmer who grew it.

Here's a list of Raleigh area farmers' markets that feature 100% locally-grown produce, and allow vendors to sell only goods that they have produced themselves. Most of these markets operate only during the peak of North Carolina's growing season, which run approximately from April through November.

1. State Farmers Market, Raleigh

The State Farmer's Market in Raleigh is a market that's funded by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. Though not all of the produce that's for sale at the State Farmer's Market in Raleigh is grown by the vendors themselves, much of it is.
The State Farmer's Market in Raleigh is a huge place: It has areas devoted to local growers who are retailing their produce directly, areas for wholesalers to sell their wares, and an indoor area with semi-permanent stores that sell everything from birdhouses made of gourds to meats, cheeses and eggs.
Market Hours (year-round, though growers tend to close up shop early during the winter months): Mon-Sat 5:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Sun.8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

2. Downtown Cary Farmers Market

Amtrak Parking Lot, Harrison St., Cary
The Downtown Cary Farmers' Market features products grown or produced within 60 miles of Cary . Products available at this market include produce, pottery, artisan-roasted coffee, and pasture-raised meats.
Market Hours (April-Nov):
Saturday 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Tuesday 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

3. Holly Springs Farmers Market

The Holly Spring Farmers' Market is held in the parking lot next to Holly Springs ' Town Hall and features vendors selling everything from honey to all-natural skincare products, as well locally-grown fruits and vegetables. The market is sometimes cancelled due to inclement weather, so, if it's raining, call ahead to make sure the market is open.

4. Moore Square Farmers Market

Moore Square Farmers' Market is the only producer/vendor-operated farmers' market in downtown Raleigh. It features live music and special chef and craft events in addition to being a source for everything from arugula to quail.

5. North Hills Farmers Market

North Hill Commons (near the movie theater)
4160 Main at North Hills St., Raleigh The brand new North Hills Farmers Market will add some local flavor to the North Hills Mall Shopping Experience. According to the North Hills Mall management, this market will feature local farmers and lots of live entertainment, including "bands, artists and strolling entertainers".
