Skateboarding, BMX biking and in-line skating are very popular activities in the Triangle, especially among teens and young adults. Since Raleigh-Durham area skaters are often banned from skating in public or semi-public areas, they flock to local skate parks.

Here's a list of the Triangle's skate parks.

Sk8-Cary

2040 N.W. Maynard Rd., Cary (919) 380-2970

Sk8-Cary is managed by the town of Cary , NC and is located in Cary's Robert V. Godbold Park. Sk8-Cary can accommodate skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers. The park features a 12,000 square foot street course, ramps, a pro shop, concession area, and a covered viewing area.

Since bikers and skaters can't use the facilities at the same time, the park's schedule allots specific time slots for each type of user. A complete schedule can be viewed online.

Fees for using the park vary depending on whether or not the user is a resident of Cary and whether or not they have purchased a Sk8-Cary Membership ($25-50). In general, expect for a session to cost about $10 if you're not a park member.

Wheels Family Fun Park

Wheels Family Fun Park has a skate park that allows bikers, bladers and skateboarders. The park has a mini half-pipe and a street course with rails, spines and other obstacles. Wheels Family Fun Park also has go-karts, miniature golf, batting cages, video games, a snack bar and wi-fi internet throughout it's 81/2 acre facility. Admission to the skate park is $5.75 for a 2-hour session or $7.00 for an all-day pass.

The Factory Skateboard Park

The Factory Skateboard Park is owned and operated by the Delicious Skateboard Shop. The 25,000 square foot skate park has both indoor and outdoor courses and separate areas for beginning and advanced skaters. The Factory Skateboard Park is designed and intended for skateboarders only, not for bikers or in-line skaters. Admission to the park (for nonmembers) is $8.00 for a four-hour session.

Chapel Hill Skatepark by Vertical Edge

Chapel Hill Skatepark is located in Chapel Hill's Homestead Park. It is home to a Vertical Urge Pro Shop location, and has separate sessions for beginners and advanced skaters. Admission to the park is $7.00 ($8.00 for non-residents of Orange County).

Project 58

Project 58 is an indoor skatepark (skateboarders only) with 10,000 square feet of climate-controlled skateable space. Project 58 also has an arcade, a concession stand and an espresso bar. Project 58 skatepark adjoins Vertical Urge, a 7,000 square foot shop that carries a full array of skateboarding and snowboarding products.
