Hayes Barton, designed by prestigious landscape architect Earle Sumner Draper, is the neighborhood that inspired the designs of the other Five Points neighborhoods: Bloomsbury, Vanguard Park , Georgetown and Roanoke Park . Hayes Barton is one of Raleigh 's most prestigious neighborhoods.

Hayes Barton Baptist Church was founded in 1926, when Hayes Barton was a new community. Today, the church building is one of the best-known landmarks in the area.
The Josephus Daniels House (1520 Caswell St.) was home to statesman Josephus Daniels from 1920-48. Daniels served as Secretary of the Navy, was ambassador to Mexico and owned The Raleigh News and Observer. Daniels kept notable company: his friends included William Jennings Bryan and Franklin Roosevelt.
