Southern Fried Poetry Slam

The Southern Fried Poetry Slam will bring three days of open mic performance poetry to Durham this year. The Southern Fried Poetry Slam is one of the biggest poetry conventions in the nation, and it will attract poets from all over the USA and possibly other places in the world as well! Most events at the Southern Fried Poetry Slam are open to the public and free of charge, though some of the events, such as the Slams finals, have an admission fee. The Susan Komen NC Triangle Race For the Cure is more than a 5K race: its more like a festival that attracts tens of thousands of participants and spectators. Sponsors and vendors set up a tent city of exhibits at the Race Expo on the Meredith College campus, buses run back and forth from the overflow parking at the RBC center, and awards ceremonies including a Survivors Procession will take place throughout the morning. Race entry fees range from $20-$35, depending on the date of race registration and the event being entered. Keep in mind that entries for the competitive 5K race will not be accepted on race day, so if you want to log an official race time, youll need to register in advance

The internationally-acclaimed Shin Wei Dance Arts will perform as part of this years kick American Dance Festival season, which runs through from June 11 to July 25. Tickets are $22-$43 and are non-refundable.

The Indy's Best of the Triangle Party will feature two stages of live music graced by artists Thad Cockrell, Bradley William Cook, and other musical guests. The party's food is going to be catered by dozens of restaurants that won Best of the Triangle awards. Best of all, the food and music are free, though beverages are not: bring some money to spend at the cash bar, which will be stocked with Fat Tire beer, Cheerwine (a local favorite), wine and more.
