The Triangle's newest music festival is coming to town in September 2010. The Hopscotch Music Festival, presented by The Independent Weekly, will bring about 120 music acts to Raleigh, NC September 9-11. The festival is a mix of local and national acts and encompasses every genre on the map. The Hopscotch Music Festival lineup includes rock, hip-hop, country, alternative, metal, dance, punk, classical, folk—and the list goes on.

On Friday and Saturday nights, three live bands take the stage outdoors at Raleigh City Plaza. On all three nights, there will be multiple bands performing at some of Raleigh's favorite bars. The Pour House, Tir Na Nog and Berkeley Cafe are all on the venue list as well as Lincoln Theater. The really cool thing is that all of the hosts are within walking distance of each other. The really bummer thing is that the clubs are all relatively small and as of this writing (Labor Day Weekend 2010) the $45 club wristbands that allow access to all the bar shows are already sold out as are the $85 all show wristbands and the $120 VIP wristbands. However, a limited number of individual show tickets for the Hopscotch Music Festival are still available.

But even if you can't get tickets to the official festival shows, there's enough related activity to satisfy your quest for music. The Hopscotch Music Festival's free day parties will keep the festival venues and audiences humming well in advance of the night acts. Of special note is Local Time, which will highlight seven of the best bands in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. That goes live on Saturday, September 11 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and takes place on Hargett Street in front of the Raleigh Times Bar.
