The Bottom Line

Bottom Line- EVOS' "Feel good fast food" has fewer calories than mainstream fast food, and is far more environmentally-friendly and trendy, and is almost as yummy! The catch? EVOS' location isn't very convenient, and your meal will likely cost you almost twice as much as your usual stop at the drive-thru.

Pros

  • Fast food junkies can get their fix of while decreasing their carbon footprint.
  • Vegetarians and health food-eaters will find fast-food menu items that suit their tastes.
  • EVOS service is very friendly and they have the most chic décor imaginable for a fast food place!
  • Wide variety of menu selections and good kid's menu

Cons

  • The location is out-of-the way and buried in the back of a difficult-to-navigate shopping center.
  • Expect to pay "casual dining restaurant" prices ($8-12/person) for your EVOS fast food meal.
  • There is no drive-thru service at EVOS.

Description

  • Chapel Hill 's EVOS is one of only a handful of EVOS franchises nationwide.
  • EVOS is located in Eastgate shopping center, near the Trader Joe's and the Bruegger's Bagels.
  • EVOS is a bit hard to spot because at first glance, it looks more like a trendy apparel store than a place to eat.
  • EVOS serves environmentally-friendly, health-conscious fast food: burgers made from free-range beef, low-fat organic shakes.
  • Much of EVOS' food, including its fries and chicken strips are "Airbaked" instead of deep-fried.
  • This significantly reduces the amount of fat in the food without eliminating too much of the taste.

Guide Review - EVOS Fast Food Chapel Hill - Review of EVOS Fast Food Chapel Hill

My visit to EVOS was during mid-afternoon on a weekday. There was no line/wait to place my order, and the staff was extremely friendly, almost overwhelmingly so. The restaurant was sparkling clean, and very nicely decorated--all stainless steel, and trendy, inviting colors.

I ordered a free-range steakburger with a side of fries and a cappuccino milkshake. I added cheese to my burger and "super-sized" the meal, adding another couple of dollars to the total cost, which was just under $10.

The food was ready quickly, and I took advantage of EVOS' outdoor dining area, located on the sidewalk in front of the storefront.

My "super-sized" meal wasn't nearly as large as what I expected, but the burger was better-than-average for a fast-food burger. I was a bit disappointed that the cheese on the burger seemed like run-of-the mill pasteurized process cheese. The fries were good, but not spectacular. I dressed them up with EVOS' signature flavored ketchups (garlic was my favorite).

The milkshake's taste and texture were very similar to any other fast food shake. Again, I was slightly disappointed.

EVOS is a great dining option for folks who want a relatively healthy, environmentally-conscious fast-food experience. It's also an especially good choice for parents who want a better fast food option for their kids.
