Events held at the NC State Fairgrounds include horse shows at the Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. Horse Complex, Carolina Rollergirls roller derby at the Dorton Arena, a weekly flea market, and other marketplaces such as coin shows, gun shows, etc, often held at the Jim Graham Building.
The NC State Fairgrounds facilities include the landmark J.S. Dorton Arena, the 100,000 square foot Jim Graham building, the Kerr Scott Building, the Sam G. Rand Grandstand and the L.R. Harrill Center. Most of the buildings and facilities at the NC State Fairgrounds can be rented out for both private and public events.
On any given weekend, there are likely to be numerous events happening at the NC State Fairgrounds, so if you're looking for something to do, it's always a good be to consult the NC State Fairground's calendar of events.
There is usually plenty of free parking at the NC State Fairgrounds (or at NCSU's Carter-Finley Football Stadium and the RBC Center). However, during the NC State Fair, nearby parking spaces are often difficult to come by, and parking can be very difficult on days when there's an NCSU football or a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game that coincides with the state fair.
During the NC State Fair, tram and shuttle services run throughout the areas surrounding the fairgrounds in order to help make the parking situation easier for visitors.
