Raleigh Unveils Its Comprehensive Plan
The event, which is officially known as the "Draft Plan Rollout and Open House" is open to the public, and attendees will get a chance to mingle with members of Raleigh's City Council, Planning Commission and various other boards and committees.
In addition to the December 3 event, there will be an upcoming series of public briefings and workshops designed to familiarize the public with Raleigh's updated comprehensive plan. The briefings (informational sessions where public comment will not be solicited) and workshops (which are intended to be forums for public comment) will be held at various locations throughout the City of Raleigh and will take place between December 9, 2008 and January 22, 2009.
If, rather than attending a public workshop, you would prefer to peruse the proposed plan in the comfort of your own home, take a look at it online and be sure to post your comments on the site's (disappointingly complicated to use) "public input portal". The public comment period for the plan began on December 1, 2008 and will run through January 31, 2009.
However you choose to do it, make sure to get your two cents in. The Comprehensive Plan will affect everyone who lives, works and plays in Raleigh because it contains guidelines for just about everything! Storm water management, economic development, public transportation, historic preservation and detailed plans for almost every neighborhood in Raleigh are but a few of the topics included in the massive comprehensive plan document.
