This Weekend Has Shopping, Ball Games and A Bridge to the Sky!

Saturday November 29, 2008
While holiday shopping and watching football (don't miss Saturday's Carolina vs. Duke game!)or basketball games is at the top of many people's to-do lists this weekend, Triangle-area devotees of the performing arts are being treated to some "doorbusters" too.

The Carolina Ballet's interpretation of "Handel's Messiah" and the Playmakers Repertory Company's rendition of "The Little Prince" are spreading cheer to Triangle audiences this weekend, and Sunday's performance by blues guitarist B.B. King's at the brand new Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) will kick off a new era for the City of Durham's performing arts scene.

The DPAC will celebrate the (anticipated) success of Sunday's inaugural performance, as well as the (almost) completion of its construction with a grand opening ceremony on Monday evening. The ceremony, which begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 1, will include a ribbon cutting, live entertainment, and the lighting of Durham's new landmark public "light sculpture", Spanish artist Jaume Plensa's "Bridge to the Sky".
